Latvia and Estonia register EU's second lowest inflation in August

The consumer price level in Latvia this past August, compared with the same month of the previous year, increased 0.2%, which was the second lowest increase in the EU, according to the latest data from the EU's statistical office Eurostat. Estonia, the Czech Republic and Ireland also posted 0.2% increases in annual inflation, writes LETA.

The lowest increases in inflation last month (0.1%), were registered in Germany, France, Luxembourg and Hungary.

 

Deflation was registered in 11 member states, while 16 member states recorded inflation. Prices remained unchanged in Great Britain.

 

Malta registered the highest annual inflation in August – by 1.4%, followed by Austria – 0.9%, as well as Belgium – 0.8%.

 

The largest deflation level was registered in Cyprus – 1.9%, followed by Romania – 1.7%, as well as Lithuania – by 1%.

 

Annual inflation in the eurozone in August increased 0.1% when compared to August of 2014, but annual inflation in the EU was at 0.2% in August.

 

Meanwhile, when compared to the previous month, consumer prices in the eurozone and the EU remained unchanged.

 

In Latvia, month-on-month deflation was registered at 0.4%.

 

Lithuania registered 0.9% deflation, month-on-month in August, but Estonia – by 0.2%.
