The usual seasonal drop in unemployment in Latvia has not been observed in summer 2015, the director of the State Employment Agency Inese Kalvane told Latvian Television this morning, cites LETA.

She said that the employment problems in Liepaja (southwestern Latvia) have left a substantial impact on employment figures this year, as well as problems within the fish processing industry.

Kalvane said that only a slight reduction in unemployment has been registered this summer – by 0.5%. She also said that there has also been a slight increase of job vacancies registered at the SEA – approximately 6,000.

Kalvane was cautious in predicting employment figures for the upcoming months, however, she added that the unemployment level is likely to reduce slightly ahead of the winter season.

As reported, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia did not change in July and stood at 8.6% of the economically-active population at the end of last month, according to information on the State Employment Agency's website.
