Lithuania's development level is rising and EU's support will decrease after 2020

The good days are coming to an end: as Lithuania's development level is rising and catching up with the EU's average rate, the EU's support after 2020 will probably decrease sharply, reports LETA/ELTA, referring to Vakaro zinios.

In other words, the time is coming when we will be paying more to the EU's budget than actually taking from it.

The daily Vakaro zinios asked how the Government is preparing for it and how we will be solving those problems which we now smother up with the EU aid funds. Kestutis Treciokas, the environment minister: "We must use the funds which we have already received in an efficient manner. Well, if I said that we know very well what we will be doing in the future and that we have a plan ready, I would be wrong. However, if I said the opposite – that we do not care about it and we are not thinking about it – I would be lying. We are already trying to think of something".

Virginija Baltraitiene, the agriculture minister: "There is no specific plan yet but we are getting ready for it and speaking about it".

Sarunas Birutis, the culture minister: "The culture area will continue to be wronged as it always been. For the time being we will catch our breath to get some oxygen – we will use the funds for heritage protection purposes and in order to upgrade our infrastructure – but later we will have to come back to a starvation diet and deficit".
