Estonia registers EU's lowest government debt in Q1

Latvia's government debt to GDP ratio stood at 35% at the end of the first quarter of 2015 – the fourth lowest government debt across the European Union, according to the latest data from the EU's statistical office Eurostat. Estonia registered the lowest one, writes LETA.

The lowest ratio of government debt to GDP was registered in Estonia – 10.5%, followed by Luxembourg – 21.6%, and Bulgaria – 29.6%. Lithuania's government debt to GDP ratio amounted to 38.1%, the fifth lowest in the EU.

 

The highest ratios of government debt to GDP were recorded in Greece – 168.8%, Italy – 135.1%, and Portugal – 129.6%.

 

According to Eurostat, Latvia's national debt reached EUR 8.459 billion at the end of the first quarter of 2015.

 

Meanwhile, the EU's total debt was at EUR 12.4 trillion.
