Increasingly more foreigners want to stay and live in Latvia, reports LETA, according to a study on the profile of third-country citizens in Latvia.

Over the last couple of years, foreigners with temporary residence permits and permanent residence permits have been becoming increasingly more interested in staying Latvia for a longer period of time or permanently. The study shows that in 2009, 33.2% of foreigners with a temporary residence permit wanted to settle down for life in Latvia, this year – 52.3%.

The number of foreigners with a temporary residence permit and a desire to stay in Latvia for no longer than a year has reduced 11 times.

Meanwhile, 81.1% of foreigners with a permanent residence permit said they would like to settle down in Latvia this year.

According to the study, 60% of third-country citizens with temporary residence permits and permanent residence permits feel they belong in Latvia. The feeling of belonging is influenced by the duration of the stay and the experience of learning the Latvian language.

Most foreigners arrive in Latvia from Russia (45.7%), Belarus (17.4%) and Ukraine (11.2%).

The study also reveals that investments made by third-country citizens are growing by about EUR 90 million every year.
