Latvia is "stable" country, according to research by Fund for Peace

On the annual Fragile States Index, compiled by the U.S. magazine "Foreign Policy" and research organization Fund for Peace, Latvia is ranked as stable, reported LETA.

Latvia is 140th on the Fragile States Index. However, compared with the previous year, situation in Latvia has deteriorated, thus, Latvia has climbed two positions closer to the top unstable countries.


Situation in Estonia and Lithuania, too, has worsened, with both countries climbing one position - Estonia to 146th place, and Lithuania to 148th.


Compared with 2006, when the Baltic States were first included on the index, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia have significantly moved closer the list's unstable countries, with Latvia from 109th position, Estonia - from 111th, Lithuania - from 113th.


The world's most stable countries are Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Luxembourg.

The most fragile country is South Sudan, as it descended into civil war and poverty.
