Latvia's unemployment rate in May drops to 8.6%

At the end of May 2015, the unemployment rate in Latvia fell to 8.6%, which is 0.2 percentage points fewer than one month ago, reports LETA, according to information by the State Employment Agency.

The lowest unemployment rate at the end of May 2015 was registered in Riga Region – 5.3%, but the highest – in Latgale Region – 18.9%. The unemployment rate in Kurzeme Region reached 10.3%, Vidzeme Region – 9.4%, and Zemgale Region – 8.5%.

 

The unemployment rate in Riga in May was 5%, Jurmala – 5.9%, Jelgava – 6.9%, Valmiera – 6.3%, Ventspils – 7%, Daugavpils – 10.9%, Jekabpils – 10.5%, Liepaja – 11.6%, Rezekne – 16.3%.

 

At the beginning of May, the State Employment Agency registered 82,833 job-seekers, but at the end of May – 80,567, which is 2,266 persons (2.7%) fewer than at the end of April.

 

As reported, the registered unemployment level in Latvia in April was 8.8% of the total number of economic active residents, which was 0.4%age points fewer than in March.
