In Q1, gross earnings in Lithuania decreased by 2.1%

Statistics Lithuania informs that in I quarter 2015 average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy (individual enterprises excluded) totalled EUR 699.8, in the public sector (1) – EUR 720.1, in the private sector – EUR 689.1, and against IV quarter 2014, in the whole economy decreased by 2.1%.

In the public sector – by 3.7%, in the private sector – by 1%.

 

Average net monthly earnings in the whole economy amounted to EUR 543.6, and against IV quarter 2014, decreased by 1.9%: in the public sector – EUR 558.2 (decreased by 3.4%), in the private sector – EUR 535.9 (decreased by 0.9%).

 

In I quarter 2015, against IV quarter 2014, real earnings in the whole economy decreased by 0.2%: in the public sector – decreased by 1.7%, while in the private sector – increased by 0.8%.

 

In I quarter 2015, against IV quarter 2014, the decrease in earnings was determined by a smaller irregular premiums, bonuses, lump sum benefits, seasonal fluctuations, smaller number of working days and other reasons.

Over the year, gross earnings in the whole economy increased by 4.3%

In I quarter 2015, against I quarter 2014, average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy increased by 4.3%: in the public sector – 3%, in the private sector – 5.2%.


Over the year, average net monthly earnings in the whole economy increased by 4.1%: in the public sector – 2.8%, in the private sector – 4.9%.

 

Over the year, real earnings in the whole economy increased by 5.8%: in the public sector – 4.5, in the private sector – 6.6%. The increase in real earnings was determined by the growth in net earnings, which was faster than the increase in prices for consumer goods and services.

 


In I quarter 2015, gross earnings decreased in almost all economic activities

In I quarter 2015, against IV quarter 2014, average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy decreased the most in enterprises engaged in mining and quarrying (13.1%), agriculture, forestry and fishing (7.5%), electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (6.8%), arts, entertainment and recreation (5.6%), while increased – in enterprises engaged in financial and insurance activities (9.4%), information and communication activities (3.9%).

 

Over the year, the average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy grew in all economic activities, except for mining and quarrying (decreased by 0.4%).

Over I quarter 2015, the average number of employees in the whole economy grew by 2.2%

In I quarter 2015, against IV quarter 2014, the average number of employees in the whole economy grew by 25.3 thousand (2.2%): in the public sector – decreased by 1.2 thousand (0.3%), in the private sector – increased by 26.5 thousand (3.4%). An increase in the number of employees in the whole economy was observed in the enterprises engaged in manufacturing (by 5.9 thousand), transport and storage, wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (by 2.9 thousand each), professional, scientific and technical activities (by 2.6 thousand).

 

Over the year, the average number of employees in the whole economy increased by 33.6 thousand (2.9%). It was conditioned by an increase in the average number of employees in the private sector (by 37.8 thousand, or 4.9%). In the public sector, the average number of employees dropped by 4.2 thousand (1.1%).


Concepts

Gross earnings – remuneration in cash covering the basic wage and bonuses, payable by the employer to the employee directly, including social insurance contributions and individual income tax payable by the employee. Material and temporary unemployment benefits paid irrespective of the source of finance, compensation for unused annual leave, severance pays and similar benefits are excluded.

 

Net earnings – remuneration in cash covering the basic wage and bonuses, payable by the employer to the employee directly, excluding social insurance contributions and individual income tax payable by the employee.

 

Index of real earnings – a relative indicator reflecting the change in net earnings after the influence of the change in prices for consumer goods and services has been eliminated.
