The Estonian Tax and Customs Board announced that in 2015, income tax declarations were submitted to the tax authorities on 2014 year's revenue for 662,702 persons, which is 4% more than last year, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Almost all types of income also showed a growth. On average, the declared income per person was 11,700 euros, which is more than 500 euros more than a year earlier.

Altogether people were refunded a total of 394.2 million euros this year, as compared with 366.5 million euros a year earlier.

The average income tax return per person increased by 10 euro to 230 euros.

The majority, or 96% of income tax declarations were posted electronically.

Although collection of income tax of persons residing abroad has increased in recent years, soon will be launched a pan-European project to improve tax collection.

Tax and Customs Board Service Department Senior Specialist Hannes Udde explained that inside the EU, information will be shared among all the countries about the so-called secondary state residents' incomes.

"In other words, it is better to declare that income oneself, rather than have us knocking on the door in a few years time," said Udde.
