BC, Riga, 22.05.2015.Print version
Employment will be growing slowly in Latvia in 2015, with the total number of employed persons increasing just 0.2%, the Economy Ministry says in its latest report "On the Macroeconomic Situation in the Country", informs LETA.

The situation on the labor market will continue to improve, but the improvements will be much slower due to reduced economic growth pace, explains the Economy Ministry. Demographic trends will continue to have negative impact on the labor market.

The employment level will slightly exceed 60% this year. Employment will increase the most in commercial services and retail trade sectors.

The ministry also notes resumption of operations at the metallurgical company KVV Liepajas metalurgs, and indicates that the total number of employed persons in Latvia could reach 886,500 in 2015.

Unemployment will continue to decrease this year, down to 9.8%. The number of jobseekers will reduce almost 12,000 from 2014 to a total of 96,000 this year.

As reported, according to the Central Statistical Bureau's data, the average unemployment level decreased 1.1 percentage points from 2013 to 10.8% last year.
