Pensioners Federation: Latvia has enough mechanisms to implement higher indexation of pensions

BC, Riga, 18.05.2015.Print version
The state has enough mechanisms to implement higher indexation of pensions, according to Andris Silins, the head of the Latvian Pensioners Federation, in an interview on the LNT morning show "900 sekundes", cites LETA.

He stressed that for many pensioners, the situation is becoming worse, for example, one-third of pensioners admitted of being unable to take care of their health and pay for medical services.

Silins says it is absurd that the state can afford saving companies and investing in them, but is unable to help its elderly.

He admitted though that there are only two proposals on further action at the moment. They stipulate larger petition campaigns and louder promotion of them. Silins hopes that today's congress of the Latvian Pensioners Federation will offer other proposals as well.

The 10th conference of the Latvian Pensioners Federation is taking place at the University of Latvia today.
