The importance people attach to a brand name tends to be decreasing every year. There are only eight brands in Latvia, disappearance of which would make the majority or 70% of residents feel concerned, according to the latest "Meaningful Brands" study, reports LETA.

The study reveals that most people would not care if 74% of the world's existing brands disappeared. People in Latvia care only about eight brand names, while two are considered to be beneficial to their lives.

Among the brand names people in Latvia care about the most are Google, Skype, Latvian Song and Dance Festival, Laima, Microsoft, Raimonds Pauls, "Karums", and the University of Latvia.

The study reveals that 70% of Latvian residents believe that companies and brands should play an active role in solving environmental problems. 62% believe that they ought to help improve consumers' quality of life and welfare. 61% of Latvian respondents said they have more trust in brand names which are socially responsible and eco-friendly.

The study was conducted by Idea Group at the end of 2014. A total of 8,400 people in Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia were interviewed.
