460,000 households in Latvia have cats as pets

Almost 460,000 households in Latvia have cats as pets, far exceeding the number of dogs at 260,000, reports LETA.

This according to stats compiled by the European Pet Food Federation for its annual research study.

 

Evidently the situation is quite different in each Baltic state. Estonia has considerably less house pets overall – 248,000 cats, 180,000 dogs.

 

Its dogs over cats in Lithuania. Total population is 2,912,000 there, and 740,000 households own dogs, but 670,000 – cats (that's 1,410,000 with one or the other.

 

The Federation reports that cats are the trend Europe-wide these days.
