Latvia registers EU's third steepest reduction in house prices in Q4

Compared to the respective period in 2013, house prices reduced 3.2% in Latvia in the fourth quarter of 2014, the third steepest decrease in the European Union, according to the latest data from the EU's statistical office Eurostat, cites LETA.

Slovenia registered the largest year-on-year reduction in house prices – by 4.4%, followed by Cyprus – 3.3%.

 

The steepest year-on-year increase in house prices among all EU countries for which data are available was registered in Ireland – 16.3%, Malta – 11%, Sweden – 10.4%, Estonia – 10.1%, and Great Britain – 10%. In Lithuania, house prices in the fourth quarter of last year increased by 2.7%.

 

House prices increased by in 1.1% euro area and by 2.6% in the EU in the fourth quarter of 2014, compared to the fourth quarter of 2013.

 

Compared to the third quarter of 2014, house prices decreased 0.1% in the euro area and remained unchanged in the EU in the fourth quarter of last year.

 

The steepest quarter-on-quarter increases in house prices were registered in Malta – 4.6%, Ireland – 3.8%, and Slovakia – by 2.1%.

 

The largest quarter-on-quarter reductions were reported by Latvia – 10.2%, Lithuania – 4.3%, and Cyprus – 3%.

 

In Estonia, house prices reduced 0.2% quarter-on-quarter.
