FinMin: Latvian can afford the increasing the minimum monthly wage

BC, Riga, 13.04.2015.Print version
Increasing the minimum monthly wage from EUR 360 to EUR 374 will have a neutral impact on the state budget, and the state can afford it, as the Finance Ministry's parliamentary secretary Arvils Aseradens (Unity) said in an interview with Latvian Radio, cites LETA.

He believes that increasing the monthly minimum wage is necessary as Latvian salaries have fundamental problems – the working class is affected by poverty and unskilled workers continue to emigrate from the country.

As reported, the Economy Ministry and Finance Ministry have offered several proposals regarding the minimum monthly wage: one stipulates to maintain the minimum wage at its current level – EUR 360, another – to increase it to EUR 375.

From January 1 this year, the monthly minimum wage was increased from EUR 320 to EUR 360.

The minimum hourly wage rate was increased from EUR 1.933 to EUR 2.166.
