Latvia registers EU's largest increase in monthly retail-trade turnover

In February 2015, compared with February 2014, the volume of retail trade increased by 9% in Latvia, which is the second best growth among the European Union member states for which data are available, according to latest information provided by Eurostat, cites LETA.

The highest increases in total retail trade was observed in Luxembourg – 10.2%, followed by Latvia, and Poland – 8.3%.

 

In Lithuania, year-on-year retail trade turnover rose by five%, but in Estonia – by 5.1%.

 

Meanwhile, a reduction in retail trade turnover was only registered in Slovakia – by 0.3%.

 

The annual retail trade turnover increased by three% in the euro area, and by 3.6% in the European Union.

 

Meanwhile, when compared to the previous month, retail trade turnover in the EU remained unchanged, but in the eurozone reduced by 0.2%.

 

The highest monthly increases in total retail trade were registered in Latvia – 1.2%, Malta and Slovenia – by 1.1% each, and Lithuania – 1%.

 

The largest decreases were registered in Romania – 1.4%, Portugal – 1.2%, as well as Spain – 0.7%.

 

In Estonia, the total retail trade in February, compared to January, decreased by 0.6%.
