Reforms are impossible without the involvement of social partners, European Commissioner for Social Dialogue Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity) said during the forum of social partners "Role of social dialogue in ensuring the economic growth and qualitative work place" in Riga today, reports LETA.

He stressed that social dialogue is an especially important theme for the current Commission, furthermore, reforms would be impossible without the involvement of social partners.

 

Dombrovskis pointed out that only in cooperation with social partners conditions could be created for sustainable development and low unemployment.

 

"Ever since the crisis, Latvia has done a lot to involve social partners in the decision-making process. In collaboration with the social partners, various important issues were solved, and without these organizations, Latvia would have found it more difficult to carry out reforms," Dombrovskis said.

 

Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma (Unity), too, said that the economy must be improved with the involvement of social partners. According to the prime minister, the cooperation between the state and its social partners must be based on mutual trust and responsibility for the facilitation of economy.

 

"I can ascertain that Latvia has always been ready for constructive cooperation with the social partners," Straujuma stressed.
