Latvians oppose increase in taxes in order to boost defense spending

Most residents of Latvia do not support the idea that taxes could be raised in order to increase defense spending, according to a public opinion survey carried out by TNS in cooperation with the LNT television, cites LETA.
81% of Latvia's economically active residents oppose the idea that some taxes could be raised in order to increase Latvia's defense spending. 21% said they rather disagreed with the proposal, 60% said they strongly disapproved of the idea.
13% said they would support higher taxes so defense spending could increase, and 6% had no opinion.
The survey was carried out online interviewing 850 residents aged 18 to 55.
