Latvia records EU's largest increase in the number of employed persons in Q4
Spain also registered a 0.7% increase in employment, followed by Ireland and Spain – by 0.6% each.
The largest quarter-on-quarter reduction in employed persons was registered Portugal – by 1.4%, Cyprus – 0.6%, Poland – 0.3%, Italy – 0.2%, and Malta – 0.1%.
Meanwhile, employment remained unchanged in Bulgaria, Hungary, Finland and France.
Employment in the EU increased by 0.2% in the fourth quarter, but in the eurozone – by 0.1%.
Eurostat estimates that 226.7 million men and women were employed in the EU in the fourth quarter of 2014, of which 148.6 million were employed in the euro area.
Meanwhile, compared to the fourth quarter of 2013, the number of employed person in the EU increased by 1%, but in the eurozone – by 0.9%.
Year-on-year reductions in employment were only registered in Cyprus – by 1.5%, Latvia – 1.2%, and Finland – 0.2%.
Meanwhile, the steepest year-on-year increase was recorded in Malta – by 3.9%, Estonia – by 3.1%, and Hungary – by 2.6%.
