Industrial production in Latvia drops by 3.1% in January

Latest data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau show that, compared to December 2014 industrial production volume in January 2015 (according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices) declined by 3.1%.

It was affected by a decrease of 18.4% in electricity and gas supply. Production output of manufacturing, compared to the previous month, reduced slightly – by 0.2%, but in mining and quarrying it rose by 8.8%.

Compared to January 2014, industrial production output decreased by 3.5%, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices. Production drop was observed in electricity and gas supply of 19%, while in manufacturing and in mining and quarrying there was an increase of 2% and 15.4%, respectively.

 

Volume of production rose in manufacture of furniture by 12.4%, in manufacture of wood and of products of wood – of 9.8%, in printing and reproduction of recorded media – of 6.3%, and in manufacture of beverages – of 6.2%. Growth was also recorded in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products – 2.4 times, compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.

 

But production drop was recorded in manufacture of textiles – of 26.3%, in manufacture of electrical equipment – of 12.9%, in manufacture of chemicals and chemical products – of 7.6%, and in manufacture of food products – of 3.8%.
