Aging, inequality, and lack of labor force named as Latvia's challenges in next 5 years

Latvian residents believe that aging, inequality, and lack of labor force are the main challenges Latvia will face in the coming years, informs LETA, according to "DNB Latvia Barometer".

When asked to name the challenges Latvia will have to face in the coming five years, 52% of respondents mentioned aging, 42% – social inequality, 39% – lack of labor force, 31% – unemployment, 29% – poor economic situation.

 

Meanwhile, one-fourth of respondents said Latvia will face a large number of immigrants in the coming five years, 21% – economic competition with other countries, 16% – tense geopolitical situation, 13% – disagreements among representatives of different ethnicities.

 

When asked to describe life in Latvia after five years, 35% of respondents said it will get better. 17% of respondents were pessimistic and said that life will be tougher, while 30% said that nothing will change in Latvia after five years.

 

"DNB Latvia Barometer" is carried out on a monthly basis. The survey is made up of two parts of poll questions – one that is constant and featured in every survey, and the other that deals with the latest developments in Latvia.

 

The latest survey was conducted from January 9 to 24. A total of 1,000 respondents, aged between 18 and 74, were interviewed.
