Annual deflation in January was observed in 23 EU member states

The consumer price level in Latvia in January 2015, compared with the same period last year, reduced by 0.3%, according to the latest data from Eurostat. Annual deflation in January was observed in 23 EU member states, while only five member states registered inflation, writes LETA.

Thus, Latvia has registered 0.3% deflation in January, after recording 0.3% inflation just this past December.

 

The highest annual inflation level was registered in Greece – 2.8%, followed by Bulgaria – 2.3%, and Spain – 1.5%.

 

Meanwhile, inflation was registered in Malta – by 0.8%, Austria and Romania – by 0.5%, each, Sweden – 0.4%, and Great Britain – 0.3%.

 

Lithuania registered 1.4% annual deflation in January, while Estonia – 0.5%.

 

Annual deflation in the eurozone in January was at 0.6%, compared to 0.2% in December.

 

Deflation in the EU in January rose to 0.5%, compared to 0.1% in December.
