In January, industrial production decreased by 5.9% in Lithuania

Statistics Lithuania informs that in January 2015 industrial production totalled EUR 1.44 billion at current prices and, compared to December 2014, dropped by 5.9% at constant prices, seasonally and working day adjusted – by 2.2%.

Over the month, mining and quarrying and manufacturing production decreased by 7.4%, seasonally and working day adjusted – by 2.1%; manufacturing production decreased by 7.4%, seasonally and working day adjusted – by 2%.

 

Over the month, a decrease in production was observed in the manufacture of beverages (32.8%), repair and installation of machinery and equipment (31.3%), manufacture of refined petroleum products (23.7%), other non-metallic mineral products (21%), metal products, except for machinery and equipment (17.4%), and computer, electronic and optical products (12.8%).

In January 2015, against December 2014, the largest increase in production was observed in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (38.6%), wearing apparel (27%), motor vehicles and equipment (24.3%), wood and wood products, except for furniture (21.7%), and furniture (21.7%).

In January 2015, against January 2014, industrial production grew by 1.2% at constant prices, working day adjusted – by 3.1%. Mining and quarrying and manufacturing production grew by 3.2%, working day adjusted – by 5.7%; manufacturing production grew by 3.5%, working day adjusted – by 5.8%.

 

In January 2015, against January 2014, the proportion of mining and quarrying and manufacturing sales and services on the non-Lithuanian market dropped by 1%age point and stood at 64.8%, on the Lithuanian market – grew by 1%age point and stood at 35.2%. The value of sales and services to euro area countries accounted for more than half (53%) of the total value of mining and quarrying and manufacturing sales and services on the non-Lithuanian market.

 

In January 2015, against January 2014, the value of sales and services of industrial enterprises on the non-Lithuanian market dropped by 9.4% at current prices. It was mainly influenced by a 31.4% drop in the sales of the production of the manufacture of refined petroleum products, 18.3% – food products, 22.9% – rubber and plastic products, 35.1 cent – basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations. Over the said period, the sales of the production of the manufacture of furniture grew by 16.3, wood and wood products, except for furniture, – by 15.3%, other transport equipment – 2.9 times. The value of sales and services to euro area countries decreased by 1.6%, to non-euro area countries – by 16.8% at current prices.  Refined petroleum products excluded, the value of sales and services of industrial enterprises on the non-Lithuanian market decreased by 2.2% at current prices.

 

In January 2015, against January 2014, the value of sales and services of industrial enterprises on the Lithuanian market decreased by 5.3%, refined petroleum products excluded – by 1.3% at current prices.


Concepts

Sales and services of industrial enterprises refers to income (VAT and excise excluded) received during a reference period through selling goods and providing services.

 

Industrial production refers to the value (VAT and excise excluded) of the sales of goods manufactured or manufacturing work carried out by an enterprise. For the calculation of changes in industrial production, a producer price index is used.
