48.9% EU enterprises reported innovation activity during the period 2010-2012

In the time period between 2010 and 2012, 30.4% Latvian enterprises reported innovation activity, which is the fourth lowest indicator in the European Union (EU), according to data gathered by Eurostat, cites LETA.

The proportion of innovative enterprises in Estonia was 47.6%, which is the 13th lowest indicator in the EU. In Lithuania, the proportion of innovative enterprises was 32.9%, which is the sixth lowest indicator in the EU.

 

The proportion of innovative enterprises increased from 29.9% during the period 2008-2010.

 

On average, 48.9% of enterprises of EU member states reported innovation activity during the period 2010-2012, as compared to 52.8% during the period 2008-2010.

 

The lowest proportion of innovative enterprises was registered in Romania – 20.7%, Poland – 23%, and Bulgaria – 27.4%.

 

Meanwhile, the highest proportion of innovative enterprises was registered in Germany – 66.9%, Luxembourg – 66.1%, and Ireland – 58.7%.

 

Only five countries – Latvia, Malta, Great Britain, Hungary, and Bulgaria – registered an increase in the proportion of innovative enterprises during the period 2010-2012.

 

The study focused on information about product and process innovation, as well as organizational and marketing innovation.

 

The said information refers to enterprises of 10 employees or more.
