Lithuania's tourism sector accounted for 3% GDP in 2013

In 2013, the total added value of inbound and domestic tourism in Lithuania accounted for LTL 3.2 billion (EUR 927 million) or 2.96% of the country's GDP, reports LETA/ELTA.

Compared to 2012, this figure increased by 9.5%. Last year, total tourism production amounted to LTL 6.4 billion (EUR 1.85 billion) with 41,100 employees working in this sector, or by 4% more than the number of total private sector employees.

Data from Statistics Lithuania shows that the number of foreigners' trips to Lithuania last year grew by 5.9%, while the number of one-day trips to Lithuania increased by 5.6%.

 

It has been estimated that a foreign guest during their stay in Lithuania spends an average of LTL 1,237 (EUR 359), while a local tourist spends only LTL 170 (EUR 49).
