In 2013, Lithuania's health care expenditure increased by 4%

According to preliminary data of Statistics Lithuania, in 2013 expenditure on health care totalled LTL 7.8 billion (EUR 2.3 billion). Compared with 2012 it increased by LTL 266 million (EUR 77 million) or 4%, whereas compared with 2011 it increased by 7%, reports LETA/ELTA

In 2013, health care expenditure per capita was LTL 2,654 (EUR 769), by LTL 116 (EUR 34) or 5% more than in 2012 and by LTL 234 (EUR 68) or 10% more than in 2011.

 

In 2013, health care expenditure represented 6.5% of GDP, while in 2012 – 6.6% of GDP.


Hospitals accounted for the highest share of the common cost of health care, LTL 2.9 billion (EUR 0.84 billion) or 38%.

 

Compared with 2012 the figure increased by LTL 95 million (EUR 28 million) or 3%, compared with 2011 by 4%. 29% or LTL 2.3 billion (EUR 0.67 billion) was used for settlement with retail trade companies and other suppliers of medical products (pharmacies, opticians' etc). Compared with 2012 the figure decreased by 0.3%, however compared with 2011 increased by 13%.

 

Outpatient health care institutions accounted for LTL 1.9 billion (EUR 0.55 billion) or 24% of expenditure on health care in 2013. This is by 10% more than in 2012 and by 9% more than in 2011.
