E-Estonia Council aspires towards progress in real time economy

BC, Tallinn, 28.08.2014.Print version
The E-Estonia Council convened on Tuesday, discussing issues related to the so-called real-time economy, writes LETA/National Broadcasting.

It was stated that Estonia has a good starting position to be at the forefront of real-time economy on the global level.

Real-time economy is an environment in which transactions between companies are operated in real time using ICT means and hence are automatically carried out, thus significantly improving productivity ratings.

“Real-time economy would help us to reduce obstacles from businesses,” said Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas who chaired the sitting. “This will also hinder tax fraud; the State would also have a closer and more thorough overview of the economic situation,” he added.

The E-Estonia Council also continued discussions on the situation with higher education in the field of ICT, where the shortage of competent specialists is the greatest obstacle for development. Council members considered it very important to continue with the IT Academy programme.

The E-Estonia Council is steering the implementation of the Estonian Information Society Development Plan and formulates Estonia’s positions in other issues regarding the development of the information society.
