Lithuania tops EU in online news reading

Just around one in three French users of the Internet read news online or their favourite newspaper in the last 3 months, which is the lowest rate in the European Union. Lithuania, meanwhile, is the leader, reports LETA/ELTA.

The EU data revealed that Lithuania leads with 92% of residents catching up with news online, Estonia came second with 91%. The French rate, meanwhile, stood at only 38%.

 

Finland was the leader for Internet banking with 91% of users. Portugal topped the share of Internet users posting messages to social media, with 75%, while the Czech Republic at 35%, France 40% and Germany 42% were at the bottom of that table, AFP reports.

 

EU residents most of all use the Internet for sending and receiving emails (89%), also for information search (83%). In total, 61% of EU Internet users read online news, 54% used internet banking services, 52% posted messages on social websites and 50% used the Internet for travel services.
