ID cards and residence permit cards have been issued in Estonia to more than 1.3 million people, said AS Sertifitseerimiskeskus (Certification Centre).
"It is a very positive result that 37% of all card holders have used the electronic identification document and shows that Estonian people value the ID card and consider its electronic possibilities useful," said Sertifitseerimiskeskus manager Kalev Pihl.
Since the first electronic ID card was issued in 2002, 500,000 people have identified their person electronically in at least 131 occasions, which yields an average of 260 electronic identifications per person.
In ten years, 500,000 people have issued 78 million digital signatures or 156 digital signatures per user.
By the end of March, 1,317,983 unique ID cards and residents permits gad been issued in Estonia.
