Estonia to transfer to digital broadcasting in June 2010

On Tuesday, June 30, the minister of culture Laine Jänes launched a virtual clock exactly one year before the full transfer to digital broadcasting in Estonia, writes Äripäev.ee/LETA.

The virtual clock on the website digilevi.ee will indicate, second-by-second, how much time is left until June 1, 2010 when the analogue television transmission will be turned off and Estonia will fully switch to digital television.

Jänes stated that with the transmission to digital broadcasting, a phase will come to the end in Estonia's television history.

The head of the Government committee on Estonia's transmission to digital television Jüri Pihel noted that Estonia is the eighth of the EU Member States and the first among the new Member States to fully transfer to digital television.

"Many Estonian residents have well adjusted to digital television and the rest of the year is enough time for all the rest to manage to make the necessary preparations," said Pihel.
