Entrepreneurship, IT minister: Estonia could be trendsetter in e-construction

BC, Tallinn, 13.12.2018.Print version
Minister of Entrepreneurship and IT Rene Tammist said that Estonia has the opportunity to lead the way in the field of e-construction, informed LETA/BNS.

According to the minister, for that, the state has developed principles of the e-construction platform, the action plan for the realization of which will be introduced by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications on Thursday.

"We mapped the proceedings going on via the Register of Construction Works in order to make them more efficient and integrating them into e-construction. We launched the establishment of a single language of digital construction -- a single classification system --, which is the basis for the automation and robotizing of processes and activities. We are doing all this in close cooperation with companies and organizations of the private and public sector," said Tammist.

Even though modern Building Information Modeling (BIM) and construction project management solutions are widely used in Estonia, deputy secretary general of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications for construction Juri Rass said that cooperation and the movement of information between the various parties to the life cycle can still be improved a lot.

According to Rass, the state can do a lot for that. "We want to make sure that things function impeccably in the public sector, this way it will be easier for the private sector to come along with updates. We are working to ensure that the current worry, the Register of Construction Works, has mostly transferred to a service-based architecture, that services are integrated with e-construction and other relevant platforms, that open data and an analysis environment aimed at the public are easy to use," Rass said.

The deputy secretary general said that the first changes will be visible already next year, while the new environment is estimated to be completed by 2020.

The construction conference Ehitus2019+ (Construction2019+) is taking place on Thursday, which at the invitation of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications will bring together experts and entrepreneurs of the construction field. The conference will give a comprehensive overview of the results of the digitization of the construction field so far as well as further plans.
