Latvian, Norwegian scientific institutions implement joint projects for EUR 4.17 mln

In two years Latvian and Norwegian scientific institutions have implemented joint projects for EUR 4.17 million, the Latvian State Education Development Agency (VIAA) reported LETA.

The European Economic Area (EEA) and Norway Grant has considerably promoted international and transborder cooperation in science and research of Latvia higher educational establishments and scientific institutions, said Latvian Education and Science Ministry’s deputy state secretary Gunta Araja.


She said that the implemented projects represent different sectors of research – natural sciences, medicine, cancer research and others, including interdisciplinary studies.


In 2015-2017 as many as 12 Latvian and seven Norwegian scientific institutions implemented 11 cooperation projects for a total of EUR 4.17 million. The projects engaged 169 researchers who prepared 174 scientific publications.


The European Economic Area (EEA) and Norway Grant is a financial contribution of Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein to economically less developed European countries. Through its projects, these programs invest in various areas thus reducing the social and economic disparities and strengthening the relations between donor and beneficiary countries.
