According to the Latvian president's office, Vejonis said that the agreement about Latvia's participation in Microsoft Government Security Program would foster cooperation between the experts of Microsoft and the Latvian government in exchange of information about security threats, malware and other security aspects concerning Microsoft products and services.

"This cooperation will strengthen cyber security capacity of our country and help increase security of the public sector and the entire population," the Latvian president said.

He said that Latvia and Microsoft had the same vision of a safe environment for data-based investments as evidenced by the memorandum of cooperation signed at the end of last year. Latvia realizes the opportunities for boosting economic growth offered by the ICT industry therefore further investments of more than EUR 640 million of public and private financing are planned in the industry, Vejonis said, noting that Latvia already was among the world's leading nations in terms of the quality and availability of the ICT infrastructure.

"In order to make full use of the advantages of digitalization to speed up the national economic growth, we need reliable and strong partners, who would support our innovative ideas and new products and help bring them to consumers outside Latvia," the Latvian president said.

The Latvian president is on a working visit to the United States on September 18-22. His agenda includes participation in the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly and the reception hosted by US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.
