Estonian Informatics Centre: there is no increase in cyber attacks

Juhan Tere, BC, Tallinn, 28.04.2008.Print version
Estonian Informatics Centre (EIC) stated that no increase in cyber attacks against Estonia can be perceived in the cyber space.

Communications manager of EIC Katrin Pärgmäe noted that the institution’s specialists are keeping their eye on what is going on in the cyber space and that currently the situation is ordinary, there have been no attacks, writes ETV24.

Last year during April riots the internet websites of Estonian Government authorities were attacked and attempts were made to paralyse the work of a number of important channels. Cyber attacks lasted until June in waves.

Head of department handling information security incidents in EIC Hillar Aarelaid noted in a radio interview that the spam mail that has started to clog individuals’ mailboxes during the past week cannot be linked to the anniversary of April riots. These are simply new type of junk mail that that is able to get through different filters.
