First e-health services to be available by Ligo! holiday in Latvia

BC, Riga, 25.05.2016.Print version
First e-health services will become available before the Ligo! (June 23) holiday, as the National Health Service head Daina Murmane-Umbrasko told the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee of Saeima today, informs LETA.

Electronic prescription and electronic sick leave will be made available to the public if no vulnerabilities in the e-health system are ascertained.

The original launch date was in March, but it was then postponed to June 23 as several shortcomings were found in the system, said Murmane-Umbrasko.

Family physicians will have to begin use these e-health services from December 1. Until that time, the system will be examined by the Environmental Protection and Regional Development Ministry.

Health Minister Guntis Belevics (Greens/Farmers) is confident that the e-health system will be implemented without losing EUR 11.3 million allocated for the project by the European Union, the minister told the committee.

During the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee's meeting today, opposition MPs wanted to find out when the e-health system would be put into service. Belevics replied that the first e-health services – electronic prescriptions and sick leaves – would be used from December 1, and the rest of the services from July 1, 2017.

Belevics said he took over when the project was already being implemented – a lot of things had to be improved, but now implementation of the project is proceeding normally.
