Viasat, Bite Lithuania launch joint services

BC, Vilnius, 12.02.2016.Print version
Viasat, the largest digital satellite TV operator in the Baltics, has started offering joint services with the mobile phone operator Bite Lietuva, reports LETA/BNS.

From now on, users of Viasat's digital TV services will be also able to pick a mobile Internet data plan, the TV operator said in a press release on Friday.

"We developed our 4G network some time ago and today we offer a home Internet plan. Viasat had television, but they did not have a sufficiently good home Internet proposal. Thus, we are teaming up with them to offer our home Internet to their customers," Pranas Kuisys, marketing director at Bite Lietuva, told BNS.

Following the acquisition by the integrated telecoms, IT and TV services provider Teo LT of the mobile operator Omnitel from its shareholder, Sweden's TeliaSonera, in early 2016, Kestutis Sliuzas, CEO of both companies, said that they would offer services and products "developed without thinking about the technological divides" to customers this year.

However, the companies have not yet launched any specific joint TV, home Internet and mobile communications services.

Market analysts say that the Teo-Omnitel deal may prompt other TV and mobile operators to partner with one another.

Tele2 CEO Petras Masiulis said in late January that his company was also looking for potential partners to offer services that would meet the changing needs of customers.
