BC, Vilnius, 12.11.2015.Print version
There are around 20 Lithuanian groups on Facebook, offering to purchase marihuana or providing information on how to grow cannabis, Lithuania's police have identified, reports LETA/BNS.

"We have recently carried out monitoring on how many Lithuanian groups there are on Facebook where the word 420 is used. As you know, 420 means marihuana. There are around 20 such groups. Some pan-Lithuanian groups have around 1,000 members. Others, for example, "420 pagalba Kaune" (420 assistance in Kaunas) is meant only for Kaunas residents and has around 200 members," Ruta Jasinskiene, an analyst from the Lithuanian Criminal Police Bureau, told a meeting of the Commission for Prevention of Drug and Alcohol Addiction on Wednesday.

In her words, the administrators of these group state that they have been created to inform their members where acquire marihuana, how to grow cannabis etc. It is difficult, however, to identify members of these groups.

"Communication in such a group takes place via personal email account we cannot access without a court order," she said.

The majority of drugs sold online are soft drugs, Jasinskiene said.

"First of all, these are soft drugs, like marihuana, as well as new psychotropic substances. They are legal in the majority of countries, therefore, can be legally sold online. Many foreign websites, however, advice buyers to check whether the products they want to buy are allowed by their national laws," the official said.

In her words, the majority of people looking for drugs online are young people who are not addicts, however. "These are young people who experiment and need such drugs for parties or weekend relaxation," Jasinskiene said.
