BC, Tallinn, 21.04.2015.Print version
The Tallinn-based NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence holds this week the exercise "Locked Shields 2015", in which 400 participants from 16 countries solve technical cyber cases, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

It is the largest known exercise of its kind in the world, using realistic techniques, computer networks, and methods of attack.

NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre head, Lieutenant Colonel Artur Suzik said that the exercise helps to tune the skills of practitioners to cope in with a constantly evolving environment.

"Since the main aim is the implementation of the gained experiences in the daily work, we use realistic technologies and attack vectors to test experts," said Suzik.

Locked Shields is a real-time network defence exercise, organised annually since 2010 by the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence. The Estonian Cyber Range forms the backbone of the game-based exercise, with new attack vectors and technologies being introduced every year, in sync with market developments. In addition to technical and forensic challenges, Locked Shields also includes media and legal injects that add real-world considerations. Locked Shields thus provides insight into how complex a modern cyber defence crisis can be, and what is required from nations in order to be able to cope with the threats.

Locked Shields 2015 is supported by the Government of Canada.
