Tele2 Eesti sold the e-mail service Mail.ee to Latvian web portal Inbox.lv; the company reported that the transaction price was in six digits, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

Tele2 Eesti Managing Director Argo Virkebau said the company sold Mail.ee to focus on its core business – telecom services.

"Mobile communications is currently a very fast developing field of technology, and here we have a lot more capability, as well as commercial potential to create new services. We sold Mail.ee that we had created ourselves, so that it could be developed further by a company for whom it is a core business. Transaction is a win-win for users, Tele2 and Inbox.lv who gets a strong base here to enter the Estonian market," said Virkebau.

Inbox.lv manager Andris Grikis said that the company's portal has the most of users in Latvia. With the purchase, they expand besides Lithuania also to Estonia.

Tele2 launched Mail.ee, that has 420,000 accounts, 13 years ago.
