The official website of Latvia's presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) has been successfully launched and can be accessed at eu2015.lv, the presidency's spokeswoman Linda Jakobsone told LETA.

The website, which cost EUR 119,200 (VAT excluding) for the state, was revealed on Friday, and is currently working in test mode, Jakobsone explained.

The new website will be one of the most important tools in communication with all the parties interested in Latvia's presidency. It will also serve as a digital calling card of Latvia.

The press secretary of Latvia's presidency of the EU Council, Kaspars Ruklis, told LETA that the website will offer all the necessary information about Latvia's presidency, including live streams, official photographs, lists of contacts, etc.

For comparison, Lithuania spent EUR 145,200 on its website at the time it ran the presidency, Ireland – EUR 324,741, Denmark – about EUR 1 million, Jakobsone said.

Latvia will take over the presidency from Italy in the first half of 2015.
