Klaipeda lagged behind Riga in terms of container traffic in January, the Lithuanian seaport's authority said LETA/BNS.
In January 2017, Latvian ports reloaded 6.449 million tons of cargo, which was a 13.4% increase against the same period a year ago, according to information released by the Transport Ministry.
There is a plan to test a container train route from the Indian city of Mumbai to Riga this year, Verners Lusis, CEO of LDz Logistika, said at a meeting of the Latvian Council of Ports, Transit and Logistics today.
LDz Logistika, a subsidiary of Latvijas Dzelzcels (Latvian Railways) rail company, is planning the next trip of a pilot container train from China to Riga in late February, LDz Logistika CEO Verners Lusis said at a meeting of the Latvian Council of Ports, Transit and Logistics today, reports LETA.
The freight terminals of Transiidikeskuse AS handled 255,916 tons of cargoes in January, 18 percent more than in the same month in 2016, writes LETA/BNS.
Latvia’s state-owned railway company Latvijas Dzelzcels and its subsidiary LDz Logistika this week went on a visit to India to meet business representatives and discuss cooperation opportunities in cargo transportation, the company reported.
