In August, industrial production output in Latvia rose by 12.1%

Data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, compared to August 2016, in August 2017 industrial production output1 increased by 12.1% (according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices). Rise was recorded in manufacturing (of 12.1%), mining and quarrying (20.4%) and electricity and gas supply (10.6%).

EU Council Legal Service issued its assessment of the EU Commission's request for a negotiation mandate in Nord Stream 2. In the Council's energy working group last Thursday, the Council's Legal Service presented it's assessment of the Commission's request for a mandate to negotiate "special rules" for Nord Stream 2, informed BC advisor to Nord Stream 2 AG Romans Baumanis.

The natural gas supply and trading company Lietuvos Dujų Tiekimas, part of the state controlled energy company group Lietuvos Energija, has won the international tender for the supply of natural gas announced by AS Putnu Fabrika Kekava, the largest poultry company in Latvia. Putnu Fabrika Kekava, which is controlled by Linas Agro Group, became one of the first companies in Latvia to find an alternative to Russian gas, informed BC Head of Communications of Lietuvos Dujų Tiekimas Paulius Jakutavičius.

Should even one of Estonia's electronic ID cards be cracked, the certification center of the Police and Border Guard Board would be obliged under law to close all the 750,000 or so cards containing the chip in which a security flaw was discovered earlier in 2017, informs LETA/BNS.

On 27 September, representatives of the largest and most respectable mass media outlets in South Korea visited the Freeport of Riga. Seimas Speaker: Lithuania will have to rebuild dismantled railway to Latvia

Lithuania's state-run railway company Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (LG) will have to rebuild the dismantled railway stretch to Latvia after the removal caused the European Commission to impose a EUR 28-million fine, says Parliamentary Speaker Viktoras Pranckietis, cites LETA/BNS.
