Riga Port increases cargo turnover by 9.6% in 7 months

In the first seven months of 2012, the Freeport of Riga handled 21.96 million tons of cargo, which is 9.6% more than in the corresponding period last year, the port informed Nozare.lv.

In the second quarter of 2012, Latvia's economy displayed the fastest growth across the European Union when compared with the second quarter of 2011 or the second fastest if compared to the first quarter of 2012, according to the latest data from the EU's statistical office Eurostat. The second largest year-on-year growth was recorded in Slovakia – 2.9%. Lithuania's GDP grew 2.7%, the third largest growth in the EU.

Latvenergo: no alternatives to Visaginas NPP in Baltics

Given that small countries do not have alternative to nuclear energy, Latvia is ready to invest in the Visaginas Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) project. Experts of Latvernergo AS, Latvian power company, however, forecast that regional partners will join the project only when issues of safety and distribution of responsibilities are resolved.

Additional LVL 10 mln to be allocated to Stradins Hospital in Riga
