Export value in June decreased by 2.5%, while import value grew by 0.7% in Latvia
09.08.2012Provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureau show that the total foreign trade turnover at current prices in June 2012 comprised LVL 1243.9 million – 0.8% or LVL 9.4 million less than a month ago and 12.6% or LVL 139.2 million more than in June 2011.

GDP of Latvia grew by 5.1% in Q2
09.08.2012In accordance with the flash estimate of the CSB*, compared to the 2nd quarter of 2011, volume of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the 2nd quarter of 2012 increased by 5.1%, according to seasonally non-adjusted data.

Municipal waste management in EU strives for urgent solution
09.08.2012European Commission published a new report (Brussels, 7 August 2012) on how the member states manage their municipal waste. It shows startling differences across the EU. The report grades the EU-27 states against 18 criteria, using green, orange and red flags in areas such as total waste recycled, pricing of waste disposal, and infringements of European legislation.

Ventbunkers triples transhipments in July
09.08.2012In July 2012, JSC Ventbunkers transshipped three times the amount of oil products compared to July of 2011. Olafs Berķis, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of JSC Ventbunkers, said that in July 2012 the terminal operated as usual and that the transhipment volumes can still be increased. He also stressed that the company is working towards achieving this goal already in the nearest future, reported BC JSC Ventbunkers’ press officer Mārcis Krastiņš.
Manufacturing turnover in Latvia decreased by 3.1% in June 2012
09.08.2012Data of the Central Statistical Bureau show that, compared to May 2012, manufacturing turnover (1) at current prices (according to seasonally adjusted data) in June 2012 decreased by 3.1%, of which in the domestic market by 3% and in export – by 3.1%. Compared to June 2011, manufacturing turnover in June 2012 increased by 7.3%.
Record number of tourists stayed in accommodation establishments in Estonia in H1
According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st half-year of 2012, 1.24 million tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments of Estonia, which was 6% more than last year and more than in the 1st half-year of any previous year.
In June the trade deficit in Estonia increased to 122 mln euros
According to Statistics Estonia, in June 2012, exports of goods from Estonia increased by 7% at current prices and imports to Estonia by 14% compared to June of the previous year. Faster growth in imports compared to exports increased also the trade deficit.
